About Us

Alberta Father Involvement Initiative (AFII) began in 2009 when several organizations determined a need aimed at developing an action plan to promote Father Involvement in Alberta. It had become clear at that time that fatherlessness presented a challenge in relation to healthy child development and resiliency.

From these modest beginnings has evolved a strong commitment, the Alberta Father Involvement Initiative (AFII) has been active with community organizations and fathers. Committed to strong, healthy children by affirming and valuing the bond between fathers and their children, the AFII works to provide relevant and well-crafted information for fathers and for individuals, agencies, and programs working with fathers.

Encana Corporation has initially provided funding through the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. With direction from the Alberta Network for Safe and Healthy Children, the Alberta Home Visitation Network and Alberta Health Services, the AFII continues with its plan. This plan works on increasing the awareness of the initiative, building capacity within dads and service providers and assists fathers and service providers with resource development.

AFII encourages the responsible involvement of fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and any other man who is influencing a child. Fathers play a vital role in the healthy development of children. Amazing things happen to kids, moms, the community, and to dads, when men give their time, attention, and focus to the children they are raising.
